Will Reece
My name is Will Reece, and I am a senior at Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island, pursuing a double major in Accounting and Finance. This past summer, I completed an external audit internship with PwC, where I gained valuable professional experience and developed skills that I look forward to applying in my career.
At Roger Williams, I have been a dedicated member of the Men’s Golf Team, serving as team captain since my sophomore year. Beyond athletics, I hold leadership positions in academic organizations, including serving as treasurer of Beta Alpha Psi, an accounting honors society, and being inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, an internationally recognized business honors society.
I strongly value teamwork and relationship-building, having experienced firsthand the success that comes from collaboration and shared goals. Outside of academics and leadership, I prioritize personal wellness through weightlifting and golfing, both of which help me maintain balance and focus.
Formulate and Defend a Position on the benefits and limitations associated with an object, concept or process that has become digital, relative to its pre-digital existence. Your position must include an interdisciplinary perspective.
I believe that we as a society are forgetting how to think because of artificial intelligence and advances in digital technology. While we are becoming increasingly dependent on technology in everyday life, with algorithms deciding what we see and being able to find the answer to any question we may have in an instant, we are losing our human ability to think for ourselves and solve complex...
Critique the Ideas of others with regard to an object, process, or concept of a digital nature. Your critique should incorporate perspective gained from your major.
In the accounting field, most industry professionals were thrilled to get rid of pen and paper books and go digital, saving time and money. While there are many advantages to having financial records go digital, there are also some drawbacks that many without an accounting background simply overlook. That is the potential for lack of controls in the reporting system that could increase the...
Recall the creative process, social environment, and visionaries involved in the journey to the digital world we live in today.
The digital world we live in today emerged through a long creative process shaped by innovation, societal needs, and visionary thinkers. The world has become much more efficient and fast-pace, with digital information being instantly transferred from a sender to a receiver. The visionaries realized that there was a whole different way of transferring information, without the noise that analog...
Demonstrate the process of digitization as it applies to text and sound, including the tradeoffs that must be considered in the process.
The process of digitization in terms of text is the encoding of 1's and 0's that can be translated into matching letters or numbers. In terms of sound, it is again encoded then goes through a receiver that decodes it and plays the sound. Before digitization, the sound would be fully recorded and played out, but there was noticeable background noise. However, even with the static...
Clearly explain the essence of what it means to be digital & Contrast the digital representation of an object or concept with the “natural” object. What is gained. What is lost.
When explaining the essence of what it means to be digital, you must first understand what being digital is. Being digital means you are made up of discrete symbols which can be broken down by computers and transmitted in different forms, such as audio or visual. The most common form of digital comes in 0's and 1's, which is code that a computer is able to read and display the information being...
Advantages and limitations of a digital representation in a historical as well as modern context
Early digital technology came with both many advantages to analog but also had limitations. The first advantage was that it is precise. This is because digital relies on 0's and 1's, whereas analog has an infinite amount of possibilities which leads to errors. The earliest form of an analog computer was the Antikythera, which was used in Ancient Greece to predict astronomical positions. It was...
Diamond Twill Initials Weave
The first step to creating a weave is cutting two different colored pieces of paper into strips. From there, choose which color you are going to use for the background and then which will be your letters. I chose orange to be the background and green as my letters. After cutting the strips up and choosing your colors, set your background up by laying the strips of one color across horizontally....
Neural Network Post
In class last week, we learned about the neural network. Neuro networks are comprised of some number of input nodes that are attached to hidden layers which produce output nodes. The input nodes are where the information enters, such as text, numbers, or pixels. The information then flows to the hidden layers, which is where the thinking occurs. The hidden layers use mathematical transformations...
Classify objects or concepts as digital or not digital
Long ago, before our sleek flat-screen TVs and streaming shows, people’s living rooms were filled with big, boxy televisions that sometimes showed fuzzy “snow.” This static wasn’t a mistake, it was just how older technology, called analog, worked. Back then, many homes had dishes on their rooftops that pointed up at the sky. These dishes weren’t looking at stars—they were looking at...
